About me
Jose started his Federal career as a student Park Ranger with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) at Saylorville Lake, in Johnston, Iowa in 1998. After a few years working in recreation, interpretation, water safety and natural resource management, he headed South to Florida. After some time as a Park Ranger for the Lake Okeechobee/Okeechobee Waterway project, Jose moved on to work in Public Affairs and Outreach for the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) team with the Corps. Jose then went to the Corps’ Regulatory Division where he worked as a Permitting Project Manager, Enforcement Project Manager, and Acting Regulatory Enforcement Section Chief, covering South Florida and the Caribbean. After 18 years with the Corps, Jose made the move to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 2016. He’s supervised a team of biologists working on section 7, section 10, Coastal Program and Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program. He’s currently the Environmental Review Division Manager for the Florida Ecological Services Office. He also serves as a Legislative Relations Team lead for Florida. Jose was born and raised in Puerto Rico. He enjoys spending time with his wife Nicole, and three children, Farrah (23 y/o), Kylie (20 y/o), and Carmen (6 y/o). In his spare time, he is a solo singer/songwriter and bassist/vocalist in a reggae rock band.
